I recently graduated from Washington University in St. Louis in 2013 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology. I am currently applying to medical school and will be spending my next year performing clinical research with Dr. Eric Strauss, a Sports Medicine specialist, at the Hospital for Joint Diseases in New York City.Although I have limited tutoring experience in the classroom, as a former captain of my college football team and captain of my basketball, baseball, and football teams in high school, I have spent a lot of time teaching others how to succeed both on and off the field. To excel as a student-athlete at a rigorous academic institution, I had to learn how to properly manage my time due to my hectic schedule. The time management skills, discipline, and perseverance I gained from football are abilities I tried to impart on my teammates every day to help them improve in all aspects of their lives. Since my college teammates voted me the team's Most Inspirational Player, I have gained confidence in my ability to relate to others and lead them through difficult challenges to achieve their goals.I find one-on-one interactions to be extremely beneficial for improvement in the classroom. I am very adept at working with others and think my time management and leadership skills will be beneficial to any student I tutor, especially student-athletes aspiring to succeed in both academics and athletics. I hope to move at a pace that is challenging but suitable to each individual based on his or her needs.Since I have done well in the prerequisites for medical school, including the MCAT, I feel that I will be an effective tutor in Math, Biology, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Physics at all levels. Having attended the Hackley School in Tarrytown, New York, I am not only a skilled writer and editor, but I am also familiar with the intricacies of private school. I think I would be a great fit to help any students who are looking to take the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE).As a former athlete, I spend a lot of my free time focused on living a healthy lifestyle, constantly seeking to expand my knowledge about exercise and proper nutrition. I play pickup basketball and read regularly. I am an avid New York sports fan and love watching the Yankees, Giants, and Knicks.

ACCUPLACER Reading Comprehension Tutor • +27 Subjects

My entire career has been spent doing the two things I love the most: working with kids and reading books. Not everybody is able to be as lucky as I have been. For over 34 years, I have been in public education as a teacher and supervisor. My undergraduate years were spent at Seton Hall University, and I followed this by immediately obtaining my Masters of Arts in Teaching at what was then called Montclair State University. In addition to working in high schools in three New Jersey districts (Middletown, Old Bridge, and North Brunswick), I raised four children of my own. Even with this hectic schedule, I found time to become a published author, and I co-wrote a book about baseball (one of my passions) which was published in 1992. Besides writing and following baseball, my favorite activities include reading (especially James Joyce), watching films (especially from the 1950s), and listening to music (especially jazz from 1927-1963). I also find plenty of time to be with my grandchildren. My retirement date officially takes effect on February 1, 2015. That is when my newest passion, tutoring young people, becomes the working focus of my life.

I am a rising sophomore at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, where I study Biomedical Engineering. I also plan to minor in Spanish and study abroad in Madrid in hopes of graduating with a second language.I began tutoring middle school aged students while I was in high school. Through years of working in child care and at my poolside cafe summer job, I grew to love engaging with younger kids. Tutoring presented an exciting opportunity to continue to do so while sharing my own academic dedication and passion with other students.Regardless of the subject or grade level, I will offer students the individualized attention and motivation they may need. I will help students overcome academic frustration and develop study strategies and organizational practices that will allow them to stay on top of their work and become more confident in the classroom.*At this time, I am primarily looking to do remote college essay editing and Common App review. I have experience guiding rising seniors through the essay process - from brainstorming an initial idea to fine-tuning grammar - and will help students craft essays that reveal their unique perspective and allow them to stand out among other qualified applicants.Personal Test ScoresAP Biology - 5AP Chemistry - 5AP BC Calculus - 5AP Statistics - 5AP English Language - 5AP Literature - 4AP U.S. History - 5AP U.S. Government - 5AP Spanish - 5SATTotal - 1560Reading/Writing - 800Math - 760

I am an enthusiastic, patient and reflective middle/high school practitioner who believes that all students can reach their greatest potentials. I create a learning atmosphere that is accepting, structured and challenging to meet high expectations and the needs of each student. I studied English and Secondary Education at St. Joseph's College in Brooklyn, where I achieved a degree in English/Secondary Education. There I also started an English Literature Club and helped create the school's first ever literary magazine, serving as an assistant editor. Since then, I have attained a Master's Degree in the Teaching of Writing and Reading, and am a certified English and Reading teacher. I have presented at local and national conferences about my approaches to teaching writing in a high school setting. Additionally, I have taken numerous seminars on AP English Language and Composition and introduced the course for the first time in the school district that I work in, writing the syllabus for the course and teaching it with great success for over five years. I also have been tutoring privately for over ten years, working with students from fifth grade through college. I have helped students find great success on the the SAT, ACT, English Regents Exam, AP English Language and Composition Exam, and with writing, reading, and speaking in general. I also have helped many, many students with their college essays, seeing great results that helped students to share their sometimes very personal stories, while also impressing the institutions to which they sought admission. Overall, this career has never felt like a job for me. I love working with people and always have. I love helping people see the greatness that lies within them, and helping them to see that they absolutely can achieve the goals that they set for themselves. Nothing brings me greater joy than seeing a student, regardless of age, feel great about his or her achievements. I have always played a teaching role, helping co-workers learn computer skills in my teens and early twenties, teaching people of all ages to snowboard, which is a hobby and a side job that still keep up, and teaching English to students for the past ten years. It is a wonderful subject to teach that helps people learn to communicate in a way that brings them satisfaction and helps them to garner what they want in life. Studying English also helps people learn so much about other people, as well, gaining the ability to empathize, and gaining the lifelong skill of being able to read and learn whatever he or she wants through that skill.

Hey everyone! I am currently a Junior at Harvard University majoring in East Asian Studies with a specific focus on Japan and Japanese media. On campus I am also President of the Harvard College Japan Initiative, a student-run organization that devises an annual Japanese career fair and works with several Japanese companies and groups to run programs both here in the U.S. and in Japan. I also work at the Yenching Library on campus in the Japanese Collection. In my spare time I like to consume Japanese media (games, novels, movies) that I buy on my trips there, act, and practice martial arts.I have been tutoring in a variety of subjects for over 10 years and am extremely passionate about teaching and education. Sometimes students need assistance tailored to their specific needs and situations that regular classes cannot provide, and so one of my greatest joys tutoring is being able to give one-on-one, specialized help and the little extra push that they need to help them shine. My mother is a former teacher and so from a very young age I've always been drawn to education, and my love for tutoring is just one manifestation of that.I'm very approachable, so please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or concerns about anything! I'm really looking forward to working with and getting to know some of you!

I am a Colorado native, earning an Architecture Degree at Princeton University. I am passionate about Club Baseball, dedicated to health and fitness, and committed to Christian Fellowship on campus. I am very focused on growth and self improvement and I thrive helping other people achieve their own goals and reach new heights. When I was 19, I decided I wanted to serve my county by becoming an Officer in the Navy, and ideally a Navy Seal. I realized that to serve anyone or anything to your best capacity, it requires that you have a vision for WHO you want to be and the belief in yourself that you can get there though consistent hard work. Whatever your goal is, there IS a way to get there. That is why I am a tutor, because it is amazing to help and encourage other people as they complete their own journeys of goal setting, challenging themselves, growing, achieving their goals, and then setting even higher ones. My own academic experience has taught me that often the difference between a fulfilling, exciting experience and a difficult, draining one, is how invested the teacher is; in my best classes, the professors have walked with me every step of the way, and I have achieved much more because of that. By walking with my own pupils, I leverage my knowledge and understanding to help them learn not only the things they need to succeed in one class, but the self-confidence to succeed in future endeavors in all areas of life.

I was designated as gifted early in my academic career based on scores I earned on aptitude tests. I am an Advanced Placement Scholar, a National Merit Semi-finalist, and a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars honor society among academic recognition I have earned. I was accepted to multiple "T-14" (top fourteen) law schools, including Georgetown Law, which, among other schools, offered me an academic scholarship based on my personal, academic, and professional achievements. Among my tutoring specialties is the SAT on which I scored in the 99th percentile, including perfect scores on the verbal section. I have helped many others increase their SAT performance significantly within a short amount of time by thoroughly breaking down the exam material. I enjoy working with others to help them achieve their maximum performance.
