About Me
Upon graduating from high shool, I attended the University of Nebraska for one year and then transferred to Tabor College and earned a bachelors degree in secondary math education. I have taught high school math for 24 years along with working in our school's academic skills program for 2 years helping at-risk students find success in school. The subjects I've taught include Algebra 1, Algebra 2, College Algebra/Precalculus (dual credit/high school and college credit) Trigonometry and Calculus 1. I plan to tutor in these subjects as well along with possibly tutoring in ACT prep as well. My favorite math subject is Trigonometry. I like Trigonometry because its a good combination of Algebra and Geometry. I have always valued the "helping" side of teaching. I love to teach math concepts, but I really love helping students one on one to help them succeed and gain confidence. I have a great amount of patience, probably gained by raising 4 of my own children and now having 4 grandchildren. I like to ask questions as part of the learning process to help a student really think and learn. Through my work in the academic skills department of our school, I have gained a lot of experience in helping students who struggle with math. I believe that it is also really important to be able to teach to a students strengths. In my personal life, I love to crochet, knit, sew, quilt, cook and do summer gardening and canning. I also love to listen to audio books. I have a real passion for helping students be as successful as they can be. I have learned the value of patience over my 24 years of teaching and working hard at listening to and understanding where a student is coming from.
Hobbies & Interests
I have 4 grandchildren, 3 boys and 1 girl. I consider them my main hobby right now because that is where I spend a lot of time. When not helping with grand kids, I love to crochet, knit, sew, cook, and do gardening and canning. I also like to listen to audio books, and quilt. As a math teacher, I sometimes feel like I'm not very creative. However, the creativity that I do have, I find when I'm working with my hobbies.
