I am a graduate of Rockhurst University where I received my Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education with a minor in English Literature. Upon graduating, I became certified to teach both elementary education (grades 1-6) and English Language Arts (grades 5-9) in the state of Missouri. I have spent the past two years teaching seventh grade reading and writing, and I have loved every minute of it! Not only do I love helping my students understand new concepts in my subject areas, but I also really enjoy sharing literature, both classics and new fiction, with them in hopes it will foster a love of reading. I believe in the power of literature to spark critical thinking and help students make meaningful connections to their lives and the lives of others. It may come as no surprise that one of my chief hobbies is reading; I try to read fifty new novels every year, many of which I can then recommend to my students! I tutor a broad range of subjects, most notably English, Literature, and ACT/SAT Test Preparations, but regardless of what I am tutoring, my teaching philosophy and style stems from building relationships with my students. While I have a great innate desire to help the next generation learn and succeed, I realize that the first step to doing so is getting to know my students and their individual needs. Only then can I create truly meaningful, relevant, and applicable lessons and tutoring sessions that will help them learn and grow. My passion is to help students realize their potential as life-long learners and help them succeed as they navigate their educational paths.

I am an undergraduate at Washington University, and I grew up in Columbus, Ohio. Math has always been one of my favorite subjects. I love Pre-algebra, Calculus, Linear Algebra and everything in between! I have tutored for about four years and have worked with students of all ages. Most students come to me for Math, but I have also worked with students on SAT and ACT test prep, Statistics and Physics. I am a new graduate of Pomona College, in Claremont, CA, where I studied Religion and Philosophy. I peer edited as well as volunteering with groups that mentored high school students, focusing on college admissions work, continuing and expanding my experiences from high school of tutoring for standardized testing. I'm referring to math, of course, but I didn't always like the subject. Until about age 16, I thought of math as a boring, mind-numbing process of blindly memorizing formulas and then forgetting them after the test, but a series of wonderful teachers showed me the truth. I had thought that everything in math was invented arbitrarily just to torture students, but actually it all made sense in a deep way. When I caught a glimpse of what math really was, I found it irresistible and I ended up majoring in math in college at UChicago. I'm currently a Master's student in Computer Science at NYU.

I am a junior at Purdue University studying Aerospace Engineering and am part of the Air Force ROTC program. I have worked with kids of all ages from kindergarten to sophomores in college, each with their own set of unique strengths, and tutored a variety of subjects, including calculus, trigonometry, geometry, thermodynamics, chemistry, and physics. Like many of my previous students, I struggled to understand concepts that I was being taught and was a terrible test taker. However, I found ways to overcome my obstacles and develop an better intuition for what I was learning. I believe that it is only this intuition and understanding that helps overcome these obstacles. My least favorite thing to see people be discouraged, so with a little bit of guidance and reassurance, I want to show people that they are capable of anything they put their mind to.

I am currently pursuing a Master's degree in violin performance at the Juilliard School. I have tutored privately and through Chegg Tutoring, Varsity Tutors, PrepExpert, and iLearn World throughout high school and college, with most of my experience being in standardized test prep and English. The most fulfilling moments that I have with my students are when I see them applying previous lessons and skills to new challenges. I believe that a good teacher not only helps a student tackle specific, formulaic kinds of questions, but also imparts the skills necessary for adapting to the diverse intellectual challenges that life presents. My goal is always for my students to leave their sessions having learned something that will be useful for years to come, not just on the next test that they are preparing for. After all, education is a lifelong process!
