BA University of Notre Dame

I am a 2023 graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a Finance/Economics major and a minor in Innovation and Entrepreneurship. I am a passionate student in the math and business realms, as I enjoy the intuitiveness of the former and the real-world potential of the latter. During classes in middle and high school, I developed a reputation of being a good source of help within my classes in a non-tutor capacity, and grew that into a peer tutor role a couple times a week during lunch my senior year of high school. What I hope to accomplish with my tutoring is ensure that you not only achieve your desired grade/score, but see how the different concepts relate to each other in the bigger picture. The more important part is to critically think about the subject matter in other, more unfamiliar contexts. Also, in my math subjects, I seek to provide personal secrets in realms including quicker computation strategies, unique acronyms for certain rules, and other intuitive shortcuts.

BA Northwestern University • BA (School of Communications) Northwestern University
1+ Years Tutoring

I am a graduate of Northwestern University with a BA from the School of Communications, GPA 3.6, with a specialty in Theater and Education. Since then, I have worked as an educator at the Rubin Museum of Art, tutored the SAT, regularly traveled to India where I study Tibetan Language and conduct independent research, and have written, produced, and performed in several music and theatrical productions throughout New York City. The foundation of my tutoring philosophy is personalization and understanding. Different students have different learning styles; some learn best by listening, some by seeing, others must do. To that end, I try to tailor my lessons to fit the needs of each individual student. Ultimately, I believe that the ability to excel in educational pursuits rests largely on mental strategy, organization, and skill, all techniques that are very teachable. While absorbing content is important, the way we look at the question being asked and the way we understand the test itself is just as crucial to success, especially in standardized testing. Therefore, no matter what subject I tutor, it is my goal not just to help the student memorize information and facts, but to lead them towards understanding the underlying goals and structure of the test or assignment itself. To this end, in my lessons I often incorporate cutting-edge mindfulness-awareness and associative memory techniques based both on ancient tradition and cutting-edge brain science to aid my students towards deeper understanding, increased scholastic confidence, and reduced stress. I specialize in SAT, SSAT, and SAT II prep for Math, Verbal, Writing, and Literature, as well as High School History, English, Literature, and Writing, any K-8 subject, and college admissions coaching. In my spare time, I compose music, write and direct theater, and perform around New York City.

I am an experienced tutor specializing in history and social studies subjects, as well as SAT Math. I graduated from Johns Hopkins University in 2013 with a BA in European History and I have been tutoring for three years. In the past two years, I have privately tutored many high school students in the New York City area in a variety of subjects, including for AP classes and tests in US, European, and World History. I am passionate about history and geography and I enjoy sharing my enthusiasm for those subjects with my students. My favorite subject to tutor is European history, although I enjoy working in all social studies subjects. I also really enjoy math tutoring and I have experience tutoring it up to the SAT level. In addition to my private tutoring, I tutor elementary school students in an academic enrichment program run by the New York Public Library. I spent a year from 2014 to 2015 working full time as a tutoring fellow at a charter school in Massachusetts. My main responsibility was tutoring individual students to prepare them for the Math and ELA portions of the state standardized test. I strongly believe in the value of education, and I find that few things are more rewarding than helping a student learn and develop academically. Beyond tutoring, I am working on my own history teaching project and I enjoy reading and playing chess.

I'm currently a fourth year medical student at a private medical school in Texas. I've been involved with tutoring since middle school continuing all the way through medical school. There are so many different ways to teach based on how students learn best and I am passionate about meeting the individual needs of students so they can succeed. I took unconventional approaches to learning as instilled by mentors throughout my life that greatly increased my ability to learn and comprehend material . I've worked with tutoring students in ACT prep, SAT prep, MCAT prep, IB and AP courses, as well as STEM subjects from elementary school through to college. Recently, I've also tutored for USMLE Step 1 & 2. I also edit and work with students who need tutors for writing and reading comprehension. I have extensive experience in both college and medical school admissions and work yearly with students on essays and applications. I went to high school at the Downingtown STEM Academy and graduated May 2018 from the University of Alabama with a 4.2. I have a BS in Biology with minors in Social Work and Social Welfare. I will be graduating with an MD and MPH in May 2022. I tutor english, math, geometry, algebra, SAT, ACT, MCAT, USMLE chemistry, biology, organic chemistry, and writing along with other subjects. I've worked with rural students in Alabama, students in the Greater Philadelphia area, and students in urban areas. I believe education should be personalized and while schools can't provide this due to lack of resources, tutors are a great substitute for that. Education is the gateway to social mobility and happiness and I seek to prepare my student to meet their individual goals. I work to create an environment where the student can focus on understanding the material for their own understanding and not for others which significantly increases the students confidence in the subject matter and their desire to learn more.

I found the experience deeply rewarding and my time with WPTP nurtured an interest in working with children professionally. I tutor a wide variety of subjects including English, writing, history, SAT Reading/Writing, French and more! My favorite subject to teach is history. The subject is often viewed by students as boring and unnecessary (along the lines of, "why should I learn something that happened already?"); in my view, history is alive and full of useful lessons that can be applied at the personal, national and societal levels, and I enjoy teaching this point of view to students, helping them to see history as a living, deeply relevant subject matter.

Prior to attending UCLA, I received an Associate of Arts in Communications Studies from Skyline College in San Bruno, California. In June 2018, after graduation from UCLA, I moved to Miami, Florida where I volunteered with the Americorps VISTA program, serving as the PeaceJam Coordinator at Miami Dade College. After my year of service, I stayed in Miami where I became a Middle School Language Arts teacher with Miami Dade County Public Schools. While I am an English teacher, and tutor a wide range of subjects, I am most passionate about History, Sociology, and of course Cultural Anthropology. However, I love teaching Language Arts as I believe literacy and teaching students to express themselves through written communication is imperative to success in the competitive academic and professional context they are entering. One responsibility I was given this year is helping my middle school students at Horace Mann Middle School prepare for the Florida State Assessment (FSA). In my experience helping struggling students prepare for this exam, we always seem to have the most fun dissecting prompts and excerpts while prepping for the reading and writing portions of the FSA. I am a firm proponent of education, especially in the humanities and social sciences believing these to be necessary for an improved quality of life, and I try to impart this appreciation to all of my students. In my spare time, I enjoy reading novels, historical texts, or anything that pertains to interesting aspects of human culture.
