Writing is never work. Even if it's an essay, an exam, a homework assignment--anything that should elicit stress--a certain joy exists within it. Maybe that solidifies why I chose to major in creative writing, with my future aspiration to become an author or editor. Currently, I'm a freshman at Trin...

AP Psychology Tutor • +25 Subjects

I am a graduate of Cornell University, and I received my Bachelor of Sciences in Human Development with a minor in theater. I am currently a Kindergarten teacher through Teach for America in New York City, and working towards a Masters in the Art of Teaching. Throughout college, I had various tutoring and classroom experience, including tutoring 3rd and 8th graders in English, as well as volunteering in Pre-K through 3rd grade classrooms. I also tutored college students in Introductory Psychology. I have experience with students with special needs, including ADHD and Autism. I am incredibly passionate about education and developing the next generation of inquisitive and enthusiastic learners. I believe that social-emotional learning is crucial for academic success, and that tutoring should be fun and include student choice/interest. In my spare time, I enjoy theater, dance, comedy, and music.

College English Tutor • +14 Subjects

I attended the University of Texas at Austin where I earned a B.A. in Government and a B.S. in Communication Studies. This fall, I will be returning to my alma mater to pursue a Master of Public Health. Over the course of my undergraduate career, I had the privilege of tutoring students of all ages in language arts, writing, the GRE and study skills. I am very familiar with that overwhelming feeling of anxiety that people can feel when faced with eight empty pages left on an eight page research paper or unsatisfying GRE practice scores. I want students to walk away from a session with the tools they need to tackle an obstacle that previously felt insurmountable, so I take a very hands-on approach to these subjects by actively guiding students through prompts, GRE strategies, and research outlines. I want the student to walk away from each session with a collaboratively created plan of action that will help quell their anxiety and guide their efforts going forward. I take a similar approach to life in my spare time - I love to challenge myself with hobbies like rock climbing, cooking and creative writing. After each successful (or wildly unsuccessful) attempt at something new, I take what I learned and modify my approach to the problem until one day I manage to create something delicious!

I believe that the best in people is brought about only when an opportunity for learning opens new doors, inspires new adventures and let's in new possibilities. Without these new vistas can never be reached, doors will remain closed and people will shun new possibilities. Therefore, in striving to be the best you can be, you can open yourself up to the possibility of who you will be. Belief in oneself inspires the passion to consider the self as a means of your own transformation. Therefore, when striving to follow my passion for mathematics, the arts or the sciences, I use a multifaceted approach to learning. Whether more traditional or more progressive, I can lecture and lead or simply allow for your learning to unfold via engaging conversation with the material. When you can bring your enthusiasm, interest and love of the subject material, then teaching you how to hone these skills into a career or passion project you may be working on will be a door wide open. Will you open it?

I received a Bachelors of Science in Biology with a Pre-Med focus at Syracuse University. Upon graduating, I joined Teach For America and I have been teaching for four years. In my first two years I attained a Masters in Science in Special Education from Fordham University.I teach in District 79, an amorphous district, that caters to students who have struggled in a traditional academic setting. I teach Biology (Living Environment), Earth Science, Health, and the science component of GED (HSE). I love science and I believe that the right tutor will be able to explain the depth and usefulness of science in a fun and engaging way.

Hans

Advanced Placement Prep Tutor • +32 Subjects

Hi, my name is Hans and I am a recent graduate of Northwestern University in Chicago. While there, I majored in Economics and minored in International Studies with a focus in International Political Economy and Development. Beyond these classes, I also had a healthy, eclectic interest in a wide range of subject areas including Multivariable Calculus, Physics, and Film. It is also worth noting that I was able to accomplish all of this in three years, rather than four, due to my focus and success on AP tests. As for my specific tutoring experience, I have been teaching students since high school, and volunteering with local children of lower socioeconomic status for the past three years. These lessons have been for students of all ages ranging from elementary school to college. In high school I also excelled on the SAT (2220) and a plethora of AP tests (4s and 5s across the board), and so would be happy to aid with any test prep you may need.I am a very amicable person, and truly think that I could have a successful tutoring relationship with virtually anyone. I am happy to speak with you more prior to a lesson should you have any questions regarding my qualifications and/or character. Thank you for your time and I hope to work with you soon!
