I started tutoring while in college and I started teaching high school math after graduating from the University of Notre Dame with a math degree. I then earned my masters in Secondary Math Education at Northwestern University. I have taught all high school subjects (Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Algebra 2, Precalculus, AP Calculus AB, AP Statistics, and Finite Math) and prepared students for the ACT, SAT, SAT subject tests, AP exams, and college placement exams. When tutoring, I will start by showing students good examples and all the steps, but by the end of the session, the student is showing me all the steps without any assistance. We both need to be confident that the student can talk through the problem and solve it with no notes and without prompting.

I am a recent graduate from Harvey Mudd College, a top undergraduate engineering and liberal arts institution in California. During my time there, as the class sizes were small, I was able to establish many meaningful connections with my incredible professors. Inspired by their example, I quickly developed my own passions for education and mentorship and since then, I???ve sought out many different opportunities to become a better educator, leader, and scholar.First, I joined an on-campus research group to study educational psychology. In my studies, I learned a lot about the disparities that students from different demographics face when providing and receiving feedback on engineering design. Subsequently, I took classes on Equity in STEM Education to learn more about what I could do as an educator to practice more inclusive pedagogies. I then took up a leadership position in Harvey Mudd's Office of Institutional Diversity as a Mentor and Tutor for their summer bridge program. In this role, I helped support incoming first-year students from marginalized backgrounds by counseling them through emotional crises, leadership development, and countless hours of academic tutoring. To continue mentoring and tutoring, I joined Harvey Mudd's Homework Hotline team, where I assisted K-12 students with homework over the phone. This experience equipped me with training that covered common core, active listening, and effective over-the-phone communication. More importantly, I learned to empathize and connect with a diverse set of students as well as parents. Now, I am working as a member of the Varsity Tutors to continue my work supporting students who desire a strong academic foundation. I seek to help students gain excellence in math through fun and enjoyable learning strategies that are personalized to their unique learning style. I want all of my students to feel that math is approachable, accessible, and meant for them--no matter what their academic background is. I hope that by working with my students, I can empower them to not only be more motivated to do well in school but to also genuinely enjoy learning and developing their academic foundation.

My tutoring philosophy is one that focuses on the goals of the individual and uses their personal talents to strengthen their knowledge base. As a Biologist, I have developed a wide range of academic skills from mathematics, philosophy, psychology, and presentation to help give a holistic, well-rounded experience to students. As a graduate student, I taught Introductory Biology Lab and Molecular Biology Lab at the undergraduate level. In my research, I have facilitated undergraduate training in research skills, animal care, and data analysis, resulting in 4 undergraduate authored publications. Besides extensive experience in tutoring, I am also very friendly, attentive, and patient with students. I have worked with children from kindergarten through graduate school and understand the nuances of teaching at each level. As a tutor, I focus on understanding the reasons and principles behind theories so that the student can become confident in their understanding of materials beyond what they learn with me. I look forward to the growth and joy each student acquires as a result of academic success.

I am a recent graduate from Temple University College of Engineering with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. Engineers have the most practical approach in understanding and utilizing the theories of Physics and Mathematics since Mathematics and Physics were developed to serve Engineering purposes. I strongly believe that learning and mastering Mathematical and Physical subjects deeply influences person's academic experience, builds person's mentality, strengths his /her problem solving skills, develops his/her critical thinking skills, and teaches him /her creative thinking strategies by applying the scientific method approach in solving scientific problems. For a student, learning Math and Physics from an Engineer's perspective is defiantly a unique experience. For me, sharing my educations, skills, and experience with students satisfies my passion in helping them to have a solid and practical understanding of Mathematical and Physical theories.

My name is Natasha, and I'm a graduate student at MIT. I started tutoring from my first year of undergrad because I had such wonderful experiences when I was in high school learning with friends and upperclassmen. I am personally a social learner- I learn best when I'm talking and wrestling with concepts out loud and in a group. When I can express myself coherently, I know I have mastered the material. When I started tutoring, I received a formal job, from my undergraduate university, at the Learning Den at Johns Hopkins University Office of Student Support. I hosted lectures every week in a variety of subjects spanning mathematics, engineering physics, to chemistry and the biological sciences. Here, I encountered a variety of students and different learning styles, and learned how to adapt to each one. Working with students exposed me to various styles - visual, audio, interactive and many more types of teaching. I find that every student has their own way of incorporating the material, and I want to effectively teach in a way that helps you learn in the method most conducive to your understanding.Currently, I enjoy working with physical and mathematically oriented subjects. Mathematics, coding, physics, chemistry, and biology are my favorite topics to teach since there are numerous ways to arrive at an answer, and I love the creativity permitted in problem-solving.
