I have recently retired from Procter and Gamble P&G where I served as a Research Scientist. Most of my career has been involved in synthetic chemistry pertaining to the pharmaceutical industry. Also at P&G, I worked in developing beauty care products for consumers around the world. My goal as a tutor is to bring insight and a greater breadth of understanding of the sciences to the student (client).

With a B.S. in Neuroscience from Baylor University, and minors in biology and biochemistry, I have a passion for all sciences. I spent 3 years as a supplemental instructor for chemistry students, which made me passionate about tutoring and teaching beyond Baylor. I love seeing the "Ah-Ha" moment in students and helping them reach their academic goals. Learning should be exciting and stimulating, and I am here to facilitate that experience. My tutoring interests are mostly focused on Neuroscience, Psychology, Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, and Test Prep. Outside of academia, I am involved in pediatrics research, local volunteering, and spending time with my dog.

Tola is from Northwest Indiana and attended Indiana University Bloomington, triple majoring in Chemistry, Neuroscience, and Biology and graduating with Highest Distinction and Phi Beta Kappa. She was awarded several departmental awards in organic chemistry during her time at IU. After her time at Indiana University-Bloomington, she worked as Lead Clinical Informatics Specialist (scribe) and later a Clinical Documentation Specialist at Oak Street Health, a network of primary care clinics for adults on Medicare. Tola is now a medical student at Harvard Medical School.Tola has been teaching and tutoring for the past 7 years working with high school and undergraduate students, including college athletes. She has tutored or served as a teaching assistant in psychology, general chemistry, organic chemistry, biology, and high school math courses. She has mentored and advised pre-medical students as a member of the Minority Association of Pre-Medical Students (MAPS), Hope Medical Scholars at Harvard Medical School, and the Student National Medical Association.

I graduated with a Bachelors degree in Chemistry from beautiful Montana State in Bozeman, MT. I worked for four years in a quantum photonics lab developing cryogenic experiments studying the solid state behavior of DNA and RNA nucleotide. Additionally, I worked in a material processing lab optimizing the synthesis size of gold nano-rods and began developing starting materials for non-linear optics liquid crystals polymers. I tutored various chemistry subjects through a free service for the students at Montana State. I thoroughly enjoyed being able to work one-on-one with students. Chemistry is a complex subject and developing a students learning style and being able to adapt the information to the students needs is extremely important. Everyone learns in a slightly different way and I feel that my diverse knowledge in chemistry allows me help students look at the problem in the way that suits there learning style best. I also use a lot of visualization techniques to help bring the ideas to a more concrete realm. I moved to Montana after high school for the beauty and outdoors that it offered. I am also a fanatic snowboarder and I love snow camping out in the woods at 8,000 feet. =) I try to keep balance in my life. I look to art as my creative outlet and that allows me to balance all this wonderful science that I love.

When I first came to WashU I struggled with the science portion of my curriculum and needed a tutor. If not for the help of someone able to speak and relate to me on a level I could understand, I'm unsure that I would have succeeded in any of my introductory science classes. I want to help students who have difficulty learning in a traditional lecture setting by creating problems, critical-thinking strategies, and hands-on learning experiences that are relevant to the student and the material at hand.While both science and math-based classes are my specialty, I also have a strong handle on the ACT. The ACT can be a deciding factor when your application passes through the admissions committee and a high score can help you to achieve much in the way of scholarships as well as admission into more selective schools. I graduated in May 2020 from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL. I obtained my bachelors degree in Chemistry with a minor in Spanish in just 3 years due to my advanced track. After a 15 year career in chemistry, I now primarily practice Acupuncture in Brighton. I still love the subject, and enjoy tutoring students in Organic and General Chemistry.Chemistry is really not so hard as it first appears to be. There are a few key concepts that I like to pass along that can clarify and simplify the problem sets that students face. In some cases, it is a matter of being able to express a problem in mathematical terms. In others it is being able to visualize exactly what happens in a reaction. After being pointed in the right direction, and with a little practice, most any student can excel in chemistry.
