I am a graduate student in biological anthropology at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. I moved here from Kansas City (grew up in Central KS) to attend school though I come from a family of Packers fans. My graduate research is very multi-disciplinary covering content in anthropology, biology, psychology, neuroscience, and some public health as well. As an undergraduate, I did a double major in Anthropology and Theatre & Film then went back to school to do pre-medicine and molecular biosciences. Prior to my emergence as a teacher, I was a phlebotomist for several years and worked in a research laboratory for the University of Kansas Medical Center. Outside of working as a teaching assistant and my own classes, I function as the president of the Anthropology Student Union, take dance classes, watch Mad Men and Game of Thrones, and try to keep up with my favorites sports teams.I enjoy tutoring because I get the opportunity to do more as a mentor. As a tutor, I want to help the student learn new concepts while also teaching them study skills that are usually not taught in a classroom but only get better with practice. My teaching philosophy is to encourage the student to be confident with the material versus striving for perfect memorization. Different individuals learn some things better than others and it is about finding a way to make that information important or real based on your personal memory recall. For example, do not ever make me change a tire... Though I have seen it done multiple times, I never had to do it myself so I never learned!

I'm currently an undergraduate at Cornell University studying Biology. During a semester long break from working towards my Bachelor in Arts, I tutored Math to young students at Best In Class Education Center in Fort Bend, Texas. Prior to that teaching experience, I also tutored SAT Math. I was recruited shortly after taking the SAT myself, so it was a fresh and exciting experience for me. I currently tutor a variety of academic and test preparation subjects. I'm passionate about helping students because I have had some difficulty with certain subjects myself, and I understand the frustration of what that is like. My experience with High School Physics made me an advocate of getting help when it's needed. After seeking out assistance, I went from consistently struggling with the subject to graduating as Best Physics Student. I'm a firm proponent of the idea that with enough help, anyone can improve as drastically as I did. In my spare time, I enjoy painting, running and exploring.

I'm a rising sophomore at Brown University studying Neuroscience in addition to Visual Art! I have had previous tutoring experience in high school, and I would love to continue tutoring online. I've tutored Grammar and Spanish to high school students, though I am also extremely passionate about science (specifically Biology), and Test Prep!As a student, I am extremely detail-oriented myself, and while I am certainly capable of providing "big-picture" overviews, I am not afraid to dive into the nitty-gritty details if you need it! I can be sure to provide thorough explanations---I think it is important to know not only what is the correct answer but also why it is the correct answer. I am an extremely patient person, and I am willing to take as much time as necessary to explain concepts clearly. As someone who has gone through tutoring herself, I know what it is like to be in your shoes!Outside of tutoring, I enjoy dancing; my favorite style is modern, but I also do ballet, tap, jazz, and contemporary. I also really enjoy visual art, and I love to paint in my free time!

With over two years of tutoring experience, I have worked with many different types of students, from elementary to college graduates, from students with learning disabilities to those who make straight A's. Having earned a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (SMU) and a Master's Degree in Biochemistry (CCNY), I specialize in the various math and science subjects. In addition to complete mastery of the respective subject at hand, my tutoring experiences also show that listening, patience, and good communication are key for good tutoring sessions.

I've been a mathematician and tutor for about 15 years. I have also taught mathematics at the college level for the past 7 years. My research touches on the interactions between math and theoretical computer science, as well as number theory (largely the study of prime numbers). I've taught courses ranging from basic arithmetic up through linear algebra and multivariable calculus. The second most exciting thing about mathematics is that moment when something totally opaque and confusing suddenly solidifies into crystal clarity. It's the sort of moment that makes you shout "aha!" or "eureka!". The most exciting thing about mathematics is sharing that experience with someone else.
