With a Bachelor's degree in psychology, a minor in anthropology, and a Master's degree in English--specifically, creative writing--more specifically, fiction--I have developed a broad and interdisciplinary knowledge base. This experience allows me to help a wide range of fellow travelers navigate their way along their chosen academic path. This term--fellow traveler--is how I conceive of the relationship between student and tutor: we both come to a given subject with varying degrees of knowledge and experience, and I try to lend mine in helping students find their own answers and understanding of their given subjects or tasks. I teach writing at the college level, but I also have several years of experience in 1-on-1 tutoring in a number of subjects, including preparation for the SAT, ACT, and ISEE tests in math and science, as well as in the humanities, social sciences, reading, writing, and grammar. While I can tutor in many different subjects, my favorite subject to tutor is English, particularly reading and writing. A little-known secret is that reading is a lot of fun, but this can get lost in the process of teaching it. I try to find a way to connect whatever I am reading to my own life, or, more importantly, to your life. Whenever we can make such a connection with the author, our reading becomes deeper and more relevant to our own lives. As for writing, this is an extension of one's thinking, so learning how to write with proficiency also means learning how to think with proficiency. Writing is a big subject, however, and becoming proficient can be a lifelong process. I take this approach into my tutoring. We can focus on basic grammar or advanced rhetorical choices, but in every case, I try to help you develop a foundation from which to continue develop your writing. In my free time, I enjoy playing cards (poker and bridge, in particular), playing the guitar and/or bass guitar, and writing fiction. In addition, I like to play video games and watch basketball and American grid-iron football--my love for the Dallas Cowboys is deep and abiding.Contact me for help with test preparation or studying your subject.

I am a wordsmith focusing on building vocabulary, grammar, and thought structure for different writing styles; including research papers, essays, data analysis, storytelling and corporate communications. I have spent years working at foreign-based companies, enjoying interaction with people from all corners of the globe. I love working with students of all ages and stages of their learning journey and I specialize in tackling performance anxiety during "crunch-time." While obtaining my graduate degree, I enjoyed working as a TA, and sharing ideas and perspectives with bright undergrads. I have advanced French and intermediate Spanish language skills. I have also completed my TESOL certification and enjoy teaching the nuances of the English language to eager communicators. My teaching style is patient and personalized. I strive to find what sparks interest in the student and relate those ideas to the subject matter.

I've worked at The White House, on Wall Street, and run my own tech start-up for 3 years, and I will help you achieve your goals!I overcame a significant learning disability to graduate high school at 16, publish original scientific research in major international journals, and went on to graduate from Oxford University, the London School of Economics, and Rice University. My original writing has been published in The Guardian and Le Monde, two of the largest newspapers in the United Kingdom and France, respectively.I have 10+ years of experience teaching higher mathematics, computer science, and the SAT, ACT, GMAT, GRE, SAT II, IB, and AP exams (including SAT Math IIC, AP Calculus, AP Computer Science, AP Biology, AP U.S. and European History, AP Art History, and a wide variety of other fields).I've made perfect or near perfect scores on every standardized test I teach, beginning from when I made perfect scores on SAT I Writing, Verbal, SAT II Math IIC when I was 15.It is not at all uncommon for my students to achieve scores like these, increasing by 10 percentile points or more after only a few lessons. My approach is the opposite of "one-size-fits-all."We will develop a customized syllabus together after your first diagnostic test, and I will be data-driven in pursuit of improving your score until we achieve your goals. Fully over 90% of the students I've taught have gained admission to their top choice schools, graduate school, or one of the most selective universities in the US.Outside of this work, I have also been fortunate to start a tech company, intern for The White House Chief of Staff when President Obama was first elected, and work in medical research, where I've also been fortunate to publish peer-reviewed articles on predicting Diabetes-risk in young children.Let me know how I can help you achieve your ambitions, higher education-related or otherwise. I'm excited to work with you.

I earned my BS in Mechanical Engineering from Binghamton University. After doing an internship at NASA I discovered that I wanted to impact lives more personally and so decided to follow another life-long passion of mine - teaching math. I earned my NJ teacher's license in Mathematics and stepped into the high school classroom for nearly a decade specializing in Geometry, special education and test prep. I then ran a math-only learning center which allowed me to not only work with students but also focus on coaching Instructors in best teaching practices for students of all abilities in Pre-K through Grade 12. I am passionate about making math engaging and reducing "math fear". Outside of teaching I enjoy playing with my two boys, knitting and making my own yarn.

I am a high school history teacher who has also worked as a teaching assistant at one of the country's top 10 colleges. I've taught ACT/SAT prep for about 4 years to students at all ends of the academic spectrum: from those working with learning disabilities/accommodations & struggling with timing to those trying to achieve perfect scores. Although I always create individualized plans, I focus on teaching every student the most effective, step-by-step way to approach each question on each section of the test. Beyond test prep, I've taught/tutored just about every academic subject through the undergraduate level. Outside the classroom, I enjoy reading about history, going to church, coaching sports (track & tennis), and spending time with my family. I really enjoy getting to know each student I teach as we work toward our goals.

I believe that education is the key to leading a successful and meaningful life. My passion for learning has opened countless doors for me in my life, and I hope to create those same opportunities for other students through diligent, compassionate instruction. I have been a tutor since I was in the eighth grade and have helped my younger siblings and cousins with homework ever since I was a child. I come from a single-parent home, but was a very driven student who graduated as valedictorian of one of America's top public high schools in a highly competitive STEM program, with 16 AP classes under my belt. I was also a National Merit Scholar. I feel that education is what has helped me overcome adversity and achieve my dreams, and I want to see others do the same.
