I have 5+ years of experience working in STEM education, specifically for Biology and Math. I have worked with both middle school and college-level students. My goal is to create an encouraging and nurturing environment so that students are able to find the fun that is intrinsic to learning.

I recently graduated from The University of California, Los Angeles, with a Master of Science degree in Geochemistry with a focus on Biogeochemical Oceanography. I received my Bachelor of Science degree from Gwynedd Mercy University in Biology with minors in Chemistry and English. My tutoring experience began in high school when I was able to help my little sister who was struggling in Math. I continued to tutor students in various Science and Math courses throughout high school and college. I worked as a Science and Math tutor in the Academic Resource Center in my University’s Library for the later three years of my undergraduate degree. During graduate school, I worked as a teacher’s assistant in several Earth Science and Climate courses. Since finishing graduate school, I have been given a position as a lecturer at Gwynedd Mercy University in Statistics, both in class and online. I tutor Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Statistics, Environmental Science and Physical Science. My favorite subjects to tutor are Biology and Biochemistry because I find it fascinating how everything on the planet, from the smallest molecule to the largest organism, is in some way connected to, and affected by, each other; I love understanding how and why those interactions work. I believe that every student is an individual who learns differently than anyone else; therefore it is my job to figure out how a student learns and then teach them the material in a way that it not only makes sense but becomes interesting. One thing that I love about tutoring is that, unlike in the classroom, I am able to work one-on-one with a student and teach the material in a way that makes sense to that individual student. Outside of academics, I love to be outdoors and travel. My favorite activities include rock climbing, sailing, horseback riding, caving, SCUBA diving and hiking.

I am a National Merit and National Hispanic Scholar, and I received a full Academic Presidential Scholarship plus stipends at Auburn. I consistently score well on standardized tests, and I am able to use and share my test-taking skills and strategies.

For college, I moved to Houston to attend Rice University, where I majored in Psychology. I then earned a masters degree in Religion at Yale and I am now working towards a degree in Bioethics at UPenn. I also completed the premedical requirements during this time.In Connecticut, I worked as a chaplain in a community hospital. Upon moving to Philadelphia, I found a position at CHOP as a research assistant and then transitioned to a job as an OB/GYN research coordinator at HUP. Outside of academia, I work as a barista and I skate on an adult synchronized ice skating team in Philly!

I am a graduate of Southern University Baton Rouge and Tulane University New Orleans, both great universities in Louisiana. My undergraduate degree is in Animal Science and my graduate degree is in Parasitology. I am presently a high school science teacher. I LOVE science and have been tutoring students in science for 13 years. Prior to teaching science, I worked in research. My favorite sciences are the life sciences: Biology, Environmental Science, Anatomy, etc. Once students realize that science is a part of our life and learn to identify the concepts in their day to day experiences it makes the subject much easier to understand. When I am not tutoring, I like to: travel, learn new sewing techniques, recreate pre-17th century characters, cooking new dishes for my family, and spent time with my lady (our 60 pound lab that thinks shes a baby).

I graduated with a degree in an interdisciplinary study called Human, Biology, Health and Society with a minor in music. I love exploring and learning about the world through various perspectives and disciplines. I also have a life-long interest in the arts, particularly music and literature. Coming from a diverse background of education and environmental exposure, I understand the challenges of processing new information and approaches to intake and digest them. My emphasis in teaching lies in listening to my students and self-directed application. I am excited to discover how materials in science can help students to understand the world and themselves.

My life has been spent in education, especially in the field of the medical sciences. I have been both the student and the professor for several years. Through these experiences I learned how to be a better student through teaching and a better teacher through listening to teachers. I am completely fluent (reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension) in English and Spanish due to the incredible opportunity I had of living and studying overseas in Venezuela for most of my elementary school years.I have had much experience working with students all ages: tutoring for student athletes here at OSU, organizing and leading study groups for my high school peers as we prepared for our IB exams, working with high school freshmen in small groups in an algebra 1 recovery class, teaching Sunday school at the elementary school level...These hands on experiences coupled with the knowledge I have gleaned from my human development and education classes have equipped me to work with students of all ages. As a third generation teacher, a love for teaching runs through my veins.
