I've really enjoyed my experience with VT. I was feeling very discouraged about taking the GRE again and I wanted to try and boost my score. I think learning from a person is so much better than a book! I feel so much more prepared and I've been telling people about it as well!

We found VT to be incredibly well qualified and were able to get 2 different people for the type of studying my son needed for his GRE studies. They were able to tailor the teaching structure one on one to his needs. He had excellent results, and has since been accepted to grad school.

GRE Tutoring review by Rebecca in Virginia
The student and I got started on making notecards for the terms on her WWI study sheet.  We made some really good progress and worked on figuring out the sequence of causes and events that started the war.  She also finished making all of the vocab cards on her own, with only 11 words left.

The student and I reviewed for a math exam by going over everything from his unit on systems of equations. He did well on his last test, getting all of the math correct. I can see clear improvements in the mechanics of how he is performing the algebra. The next big thing is for him to understand how to set a problem up and get to the calculations part.

GRE Tutoring review by Christine in Virginia
The student has a paper due on a Supreme Court case so we spent the duration of the tutoring session working on that. Using the rubric set forth by her teacher, I assisted the student in drafting her rough copy. We worked on the mechanics of writing an essay and the student was successful in her writing process. At the end of the session her rough draft was complete and she seemed confident in her work.

GRE Tutoring review by Alyssa in Virginia
We spent the majority of the hour reviewing the response to literature that the student wrote for homework. He still had trouble understanding the intro-evidence-commentary structure, even though I left an example, so I helped him visualize it through color coding sentences. I think that helped him see the patterns that develop in argumentative writing, and his next draft was better. However, I had to explicitly feed him evidence to create it. Next time, I will ask him to uncover concrete details independently, and create an outline with his own ideas.

The student and I worked our way through his study guide, focusing mainly on math this time. We are starting a list of the kinds of problems that are more difficult and will be practicing strategies for dealing with them effectively on the test. For our next session, we will focus mainly on reading.

GRE Tutoring review by David in Virginia
The student and I walked through a practice verbal question set and spent much of our time practicing reading strategy. I stressed a close attention to keywords, both grammatical road signs and words related to the subject. I also emphasized the importance of making a prediction before attacking question choices.
