The student's class is studying the various triangles so we spent both sessions making sure the differences between all 4 were clear. In order to calculate the centers in a coordinate plane, we used the properties of lines and point slope form. Once we made a list of all the possibilities and what we need to calculate each, it started to come together. We also talked about the Pythagorean Theorem and how we can use it to determine whether or not a triangle is acute, obtuse, or right just from the side lengths.

Geometry Tutoring review by Rodolfo in Framingham, MA
In this lesson we covered word problems that involved the use of trigonometric functions, sin, cos and tan. The main areas for improvement for the student were: 1)sketching a diagram; and 2) identifying which trigonometric function to use. To get better at drawing diagrams, I recommended her to think how the description of the problems forms a right triangle and to be careful whenever the problem talks about angles of elevation or depression. To identify which trigonometric function to use, I recommended that she identifies the position of the sides of the triangle in interest relative to the angle given in terms of being opposite, adjacent or hypotenuse. A win of this session was that we managed to cover all the worksheets.
