The student and I got back to our regular math work after another brief look at SAT material. The student's class continues to focus on radicals, with the added dimension of fractional exponents. We will continue to work on these problems, as his class will delve further into the topic.

I answered their questions they had from the problems they got wrong on the practice test. I discussed the Ten Major SAT Math Traps and how to avoid them. Then we looked at problems that have the math traps and discussed how to avoid the trap and solve the problem. They had great attitudes about learning about the traps. I gave them more problems to practice on at home this week.

We went over test questions from the high school entrance exam. The student is making progress but should continue to review old practice questions. She could use more review in geometry.

Today we covered: a position/velocity/acceleration question and clarified the relationship between the three (and common pitfalls people make), the Intermediate Value Theorem and when and how it can be used, a bunch of derivatives (which the student is great at), and finally a repeated-differentiation question. I think he's very prepared for his test.

We worked through problems on the Math section of the ACT. For the most part, he did very well on the English questions. We need to work more on ones that involve punctuation, however.
