As a dedicated educator with a Master's degree in Learning Design and Leadership from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a Bachelor's degree in Comparative Literature from UC Irvine, I bring over 15 years of tutoring and classroom teaching experience to students. Specializing in AP English Literature and Composition, middle school Language and Composition, and creative writing, I am passionate about fostering a love for literature and effective communication. Not only do I help students create a streamlined final writing product, but I also help a diverse range of students create a manageable plan for test preparation or writing completion in an organized fashion. I share a wide range of preparation tools in a release of responsibility to the student.
My teaching philosophy centers on creating a supportive learning environment where students feel empowered to express their ideas and develop critical thinking skills. I strive to connect with each student individually, tailoring my approach to meet their unique needs and learning styles. In addition to my academic pursuits, I volunteer at our local community's food pantry. West Coast Swing is my favorite social dance to practice with my husband in our free time. Every summer, I also step in as the Vocal Director for our regional theater group. I am excited to help students feel more confident and successful with their continuing studies.

One hobby that has stuck with me since I was knee-high to a grasshopper is dance. I enjoy getting all of my pent-up energy out, from rhythm tap dancing to my recent interest in social dancing. I was even fortunate enough to learn Lindy Hop from one of the dance's creators, Frankie Manning! I have also dedicated over 25 years to vocal training, particularly opera and musical theater styles. Studying music helps me to stay creative and disciplined. It's also a great stress relief. Of course, I wouldn't be an ELA teacher if I didn't enjoy reading. A few past favorite books are Children of Blood and Bone, Hamnet, and The Bookwoman of Troublesome Creek.
