Certified Tutor
I hold a BS from Maranatha Baptist University in Interdisciplinary Studies (Focus on theology and English) and subsequently received an MA in Liberal Arts from St. John's College, Annapolis. I have extensive experience both as a tutor and classroom teacher. During my undergraduate studies, I served as a peer tutor for three years and tutored a wide range of academic subjects as well as time management, executive functioning, and organization. I spent five years as a classroom teacher in classical schools teaching a range of grades from 4th-8th and mentoring seniors working on their senior thesis papers. During my time as a classroom teacher, I taught all core subjects as well as music (choir, recorder, theory, and history) and some extra-curricular courses in fiber arts and choir. While in graduate school I served one semester as the resident writing assistant, assisting my fellow graduate students with their writing projects. I have also spent three summer teaching English in China where I taught conversational English to elementary and college students as well as English language pedagogy to Chinese English teachers.
I love to tutor a range of subjects, and my favorite subjects to tutor are anything related to English (grammar, writing, literature, linguistics, poetry) and history. My experiences both as a tutor and classroom teacher in the past have taught me that I am at my best when working one-on-one with students. I have learned how to listen well, identify what is holding others back, and use my own education and expertise to formulate a plan that helps them succeed. I also believe that learning cannot happen without humility and a willingness to ask questions, be wrong at times, and learn from your mistakes. I spend my leisure time reading, knitting, and going on outdoor adventures with my wife and children.
