Guidance initially begins by first ascertaining the current understanding a student possesses (terminology, concepts, etc.) about the subject matter to better grasp their gap in knowledge and how best to help "fill in" such a gap, appropriately. Afterwards, students are taught to focus on fundamental aspects of the subject matter gap to better understand the application of such knowledge with respect to specific assigned questions and/or projects.
