As a passionate educator with a Bachelor's in History Teaching from Eastern Kentucky University, I thrive on helping students discover the relevance and realness of history. With over two years of tutoring experience, I specialize in engaging students in subjects like U.S and World History, all things Social Studies! I focus on helping students ask questions to help find the correct answers, and find strategies that work for students in the moment to answer difficult questions. My teaching philosophy centers on meeting students where they are, fostering a supportive environment where inquiry and curiosity lead the way. Learning (and learning history especially) should draw out students' personalities and give them space to grow their own interest, developing their own ideas about the past. I believe in tailoring lessons to stufents' individual interests and their abilities. I am apt to make changes actively in session as students say they do not understand something. I use relatable examples to connect historical concepts to students' lives. I am motivated by the privilege of guiding students to understand history not just as a series of events, but as a vital narrative that shapes their perspectives. I understand that not all students will understand historical concepts right away, that they may come from a place of boredom, or maybe a negative place because of past experiences! As well as that some students need someone who is willing to teach things in a way that does not fit the typical learning styles. Maybe some students just don't understand History/Social Studies as well as they do the other subjects or maybe they struggle with test anxiety (which I myself have struggled with). My goal is to help students achieve their goals independently, whether that is to pass an AP Exam, pass a certain class, develop new studying techniques, etc.
