Ethan: Richardson tutor
Certified Tutor
I am a licensed Tennessee educator and graduated magna cum laude from Rhodes College with a bachelor's degree in English. In my time as an educator I have taught English, creative writing, and Response to Intervention (RTI) courses at the high school level. I have also worked in an advisory capacity and provided editing assistance for college-level creative writing classes.
My style of teaching is exploratory. I want to guide you to find your own answers to the complicated questions that the world of literature provides. While the questions may be complicated, the role of literature, in the paraphrased words of James Baldwin, is to teach us that our feelings are not unique and have been felt by people throughout history. Because of this, the study of English is fundamentally personal. I want to know the students that I am teaching and to understand the way that they learn and think.
I love English, and have since I was very young. I was raised by readers and have become a voracious reader myself. I believe English is the most important subject for us to learn because it can bridge the gaps between a variety of disciplines--history, politics, philosophy, sociology--and help us come to a deeper understanding of all of them.
I will tutor English at any level. My teaching license endorsement is for 6th through 12th grade English, and I have experience teaching or tutoring English from 4th grade through college courses.
