I believe that effective teaching centers on dialogue between instructor and student, fostering foundational understanding and encouraging independent exploration. The ideal learning moment occurs when a student's insight expands beyond the instructor's knowledge, revealing new perspectives. Creating daily classroom dialogue, marked by student engagement through questions and peer or instructor interaction, is a primary goal. This engagement evolves into discussions where students connect the material to their experiences, enhancing understanding. Achieving this requires active facilitation, not just open discussion. Employing visual aids is one means to help students link information, recognize relationships, and build a lasting, analytical understanding, but it is far from the only means to do so. I work to design my approach to fit the student's needs and meet them where they are. My goal is not only to have my student learn a concept, but to bring them to the point where they may confidently apply the knowledge themselves beyond the classroom.
I love horseback riding, and have pursued this love through both english and western riding disciplines.

Most of my interests and pursuits connect to a love of the outdoors. There are few things better than a ramble through a forest or along a rugged shoreline with my dog! However, I am happy to curl up with both my dog and cat on rainy or snowy days. I love horseback riding, and have pursued this love through both english and western riding disciplines. I also enjoy history- especially the history that can be found wandering through an old New England cemetery where the stones include details from so many life stories.
