As a Cornell University graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Applied Economics and Management, and Agricultural Studies, I bring a multidisciplinary perspective to education. My teaching experience spans both one-on-one tutoring and classroom settings, where I've worked with students from elementary school through undergraduate levels.
My teaching journey began in high school, where I tutored peers in Algebra, Calculus, Physics, Statistics, Financial Accounting, and History. At Cornell, I expanded my tutoring repertoire to include computer science and business courses. As Head Teaching Assistant for an upper-level business course for two consecutive years, I developed customized learning materials that addressed diverse learning needs and enhanced student comprehension.
My substitute teaching experience in K-12 classrooms has consistently earned recognition for three strengths: adaptability in teaching approaches, comprehensive subject knowledge, and the ability to form meaningful connections with students that enhance both learning and retention. These relationships create a foundation of trust that encourages intellectual curiosity and academic growth.
I believe passionately that education is a universal right, and that effective teaching must honor the variety of ways in which people learn. This conviction drives my approach to STEM subjects in particular. Having observed how the abstract nature of mathematics, science, and computer science can alienate students, I've developed techniques to contextualize theoretical concepts within students' existing knowledge frameworks and demonstrate their real-world applications. By connecting algorithms to social media platforms they use daily or showing how physics explains everyday phenomena, I transform abstract theories into tangible, relevant tools.
My long-term aspiration is to become a professor specializing in machine learning, with graduate studies as my immediate next step. This goal aligns with my commitment to lifelong learning and teaching. Beyond academics, I actively design and research machine learning algorithms, while maintaining balance through reading, hiking, running, community volunteering, and gardening.
