Lisa: Oxford tutor
Certified Tutor
As a dedicated tutor with a Bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Houston-Downtown, I bring over two years of experience in both tutoring and classroom settingsspecializing in Middle School English and bilingual education. My teaching philosophy is rooted in creating a supportive, encouraging environment where students feel safe to express themselves and grow at their own pace.
As someone who once struggled to learn English myself, I understand how important it is for students to feel seen and supported. I strive to foster not just academic growth, but also confidence and a genuine love for reading and writing. I bring creativity and care into each session, and I always take time to connect with students as individuals.
In my free time, I enjoy reading across diverse genres, exploring creative writing, cooking with my son, and yesoccasionally jumping into a video game or two. These passions help me relate to students in fun, meaningful ways. My goal is always to help each child feel empowered, capable, and excited to learn.

When I’m not tutoring or creating curriculum, you’ll find me spending time with my son, Elijah, who reminds me every day why I love working with children. I also enjoy cooking, reading books that make me think, and diving into video games—yes, even Mario Kart battles! These things keep me balanced and connected, and they often give me creative ways to relate to my students. Whether it’s chatting about their favorite games or sharing silly stories, I always try to bring joy and real connection into every session.
