Hello there! My name is Alana C., and I would love to work with your student! I was the valedictorian of my high school, earning my diploma with a 4.6328 GPA (the highest in the history of my high school), and I am attending Cornell University as an undergrad on a pre-med track as I pursue God's calling for me to become a neurosurgeon.
I was the captain of the Peer Tutoring Lab at my high school from 10th to 12th grade, so I have experience tutoring students from elementary to high school level. Because I understand the importance of fully grasping material and believe that students all approach content differently, I am a patient teacher willing to explain the same concept in different ways multiple times. I truly believe in tutoring because I myself had several tutors in high schooland there should never be a stigma around the idea of getting help, especially in school. Thus, I strive to create a warm, caring learning experience in my sessionsbecause every student deserves a positive academic support system.
My Elementary level, Algebra 1, and Algebra 2 grades were always impeccable. In Algebra 2, I often received grades above 100% and have tutored many math students to success throughout my years in the Peer Tutoring Lab at my high school. Furthermore, I earned a 750 on my SAT math section, which also denotes a strong grasp of mathematical concepts.
I have taken multiple dual credit courses, thereby receiving college credit for my writing skills during high school. I also received a 5 on the AP English and Language Composition test, and a 790 on the English portion of the SAT. I am also fluent in Brazilian Portuguese (which was my first language), so I understand the struggle of adapting to the English language firsthand. I have also tutored several Brazilian immigrants in basic English, using Quizlet and worksheets I designed myself.
