Ericka
Certified Tutor
My passion for educating the youth started during my early years working with the young children in my church. From choir rehearsals to vacation bible school classes, it sparked an interest in teaching. When I was a senior in high school, I took a teacher cadet course and I was able to be a teacher assistant in a second grade classroom. Through this experience, I later studied Elementary and Middle School Education at Longwood University.
When I began my undergraduate career, I had the opportunity to be exposed to elementary and secondary classrooms. This allowed me to put into practice the methodology and pedagogical lessons I received from experienced professors. My classes were informative and my student teaching placements were enriching, which provided me the experience to teach for eight years in public and private schools in Virginia and Georgia.
During my years of teaching, I was awarded Teacher of the Year in 2017 and an opportunity to be a fellow for the 2019-2020 Fulbright Teacher for Global Classrooms. My international exchange experience was in Bogota, Colombia in 2022 for a few weeks and I had the opportunity to observe secondary bilingual general education classrooms.
Through my years of teaching middle school language arts, special education, and global studies, I hope you provide me the privilege to be a tutor for your child.
