Certified Tutor
Hello. I am Annette the Teacher. I can't wait to tutor you here on Varsity Tutors.
My educational philosophy is to foster the growth and knowledge of my students through personalized, project-based, and collaborative learning. I believe in nurturing every student's quest for knowledge through Activity-Based Learning. Learning should be fun.
I have over three decades of experience teaching children of all ages. I am a certified Early Reading Specialist. I have a B.A. in Sociology with minors in Biology, Chemistry, and Writing from the University of Pittsburgh. I have homeschooled my children from Pre-School through their High School graduations. I take courses in the areas I teach and tutor to further my knowledge.
Tutoring should be collaborative and interactive. I use a variety of methods when I tutor. I will work with you to find your strengths, weaknesses, and interests. We will work together to define your goals. I will design a unique curriculum just for you. We will work together as a team to achieve your goals.
I also have experience working with children with special needs. I am Mom of a child on the autism spectrum and a child with serious medical needs and ADHD. If your child has special needs, don't hesitate to get in touch with me so I can work with you and your child.
I have spent a lifetime learning and teaching. I continue to learn every day. I have explored a wide range of topics and gained expertise. When I was just six years old, I started reading the Funk and Wagnalls Encyclopedia (twenty-six volumes). I read through the entire Encyclopedia. I taught myself braille because it was next to "brain" in the encyclopedia, and I was obsessed with the human brain. I believe you should learn something new every single day, or you have wasted that day.
I can't wait to share my lifelong love of learning with you. There is so much knowledge out there, come and discover it with me!

My number one interests are my children. They are my reason for everything. I love to read, write, and create. In addition to my career as an educator, I am also a published writer and a successful artist. My children have followed in my footsteps. I also sell art on commission. I have written for numerous non-fiction outlets. I also have published fiction novels. We share our home with our Thrifted Cats - a happy menagerie of strays, rejects, and abandoned cats plus some of their offspring. We enjoy cooking, baking, gardening, and playing board games.
