I'd be delighted to help you with subjects that I'm both passionate about and experienced in, such as Spanish and Hebrew. Additionally, if you're interested, I'd be more than happy to offer guidance as a mentor. My experience includes being a Senior buddy in high school, where I organized group discussions and regularly checked in with my Freshmen buddies. As a junior at The George Washington University (GWU), I also informally mentored three Freshmen, meeting with them regularly to offer advice on our shared interests. I'm here to help you navigate decisions, talk through any challenges, or simply listen if you need someone to talk to.
Regarding my love for Spanish, I'm originally from San Francisco, California, where I began learning Spanish in sixth grade at the Lyce Franais de San Francisco, a French immersion school. At GWU, most of my friends were Latina from countries like Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Chile, and Mexico, so I used Spanish frequently. I also worked at Mozzarella Di Bufala, a Brazilian-Italian restaurant, where I served as a bridge and translator between the front of house staff and the kitchen, which included Guatemalan, Nicaraguan, and Mexican employees. During my time at Bluestone Lane, I continued using Spanish to connect with colleagues. With Mexican roots of my own, I've taken AP Spanish in high school and Spanish II in college to deepen my connection to my heritage.
Hebrew is my favorite language because of the elegant way its three-letter roots connect words. I've been learning Hebrew since I was nine and speak it fluently, thanks to immersion in a Hebrew-speaking environment where I used the language intensively for five months. I've taught Hebrew for two years at my synagogue, French for three months to a Brazilian-American girl at the Lyce, English in Palestinian schools for three months, and tutored at the Creative Arts Charter School in San Francisco for a year. My teaching style is interactive and practical, with a structured approach to help you meet your learning goals. This might involve discussing your goals in our first session, creating engaging exercises and games, relating material to your life, listening to music to connect with the culture, and periodic check-ins to assess your progress. These quizzes are meant to help you gauge your learning, and we can determine the frequency of these check-ins together!
A few personal notes: I love to dance, and music has been a constant joy in my life. I graduated from GWU with a degree in International Relations and a concentration in conflict resolution, making the Dean's List and graduating Magna Cum Laude. My passion for learning is something I'd love to share with you, along with the communication skills to help you connect with people around the world.
