I am passionate about helping students because of my junior year calculus teacher who would make difficult math simple with his expertise in lesson plans, class engagement, and mental mathematical knowledge. He was accessible when I needed to talk with him and he always wanted his students to succeed regardless of their math skills. I want to give that same experience to each student I tutor and show them that mathematics is not a scary subject and should be viewed as a tool to understand the world around them. I hope to ignite a passion for mathematical learning through dedication to my students!
My tutoring style is best for visual learners because I can't learn math by someone telling me what the problem is, I have to see it to understand. I find it better to show, not tell since it isn't as effective in making connections in my brain. Sometimes those connections take longer and that is why I bring patience to my learning because I can positively reinforce my self-esteem by reassuring myself that this is new subject matter and it will take some time to be proficient in it. Imagining the problem I am working on as a puzzle makes me feel committed to solving it as well. With enough practice, math material can be easily broken down into specific procedures, equations, and formatting!
I used to teach elementary school children as an extracurricular while I was in middle school and have assisted in tutoring my younger sister as she moves up in difficulty with mathematics. I find myself helping other students in my college classes with solving math problems or explaining steps for solving.
I tutor Mathematics for Elementary and Middle School students (Grades 1st through 8th).
I graduated from The Calhoun School in 2023 and am a rising sophomore attending Union College. I am working towards a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Engineering with a Minor in Energy Studies.
I love playing tabletop, board, and card games that require a strategy to help you win! I enjoy hiking and being reconnected with nature in a forest or under the stars. When I have a good chunk of free time, I will try teaching myself a new bassline!
