Certified Tutor

From the early years of high school, my motivation and drive to achieve academic excellence were crystal clear. I strived to achieve the best scores in my class. Excelling academically requires strong study ethics, effective learning techniques, and excellent time management and organizational skills. By mastering these skills, I graduated at the top of my class, despite starting as an average student. This accomplishment not only fulfilled my high school goals but also set the stage for my higher education. As your tutor, my goal is to guide you through your academic challenges and help you overcome them. I aim to align your goals with your efforts by providing the right tools for efficient learning.

My competence as a tutor comes from three years of tutoring experience. At 16, I took on my first job, teaching six students from grades 1 to 7. This role taught me the responsibility and precision required in tutoring. I balanced school with my tutoring responsibilities, ensuring satisfaction for both students and their parents. Additionally, during university, I volunteered with IntoUniversity, mentoring a sixth-grade student from an underrepresented background. I was responsible for building her academic, social, and future aspirations, meeting bi-weekly to help her achieve her goals.

The most appealing part of being a tutor is the personal growth that stems from an effective tutor-learner relationship. My aim is to maximize the learning sessions and help strengthen students' confidence in their abilities. In a world where academics play a fundamental role in societal perception, I believe that academic excellence, while challenging, is achievable. With an experienced and passionate tutor, the journey to academic success becomes easier, and I am committed to fulfilling that role.

Varsity Tutors has provided me with this incredible opportunity to contribute to a community that values personalized education and strives to make learning accessible and enjoyable for all students. I am thrilled at the prospect of bringing my expertise and enthusiasm to the Varsity Tutors platform.

Hobbies

My interests and hobbies are diverse. After discovering my passion for law, I immersed myself in reading books to gain insight into legal literature beyond my prescribed university reading. I often find myself reading books on politics and judicial matters. During high school, I was invested in swimming and pursued the sport competitively, which taught me diligence, perseverance, and, most importantly, discipline. Initially inclined towards psychology, I spent my final year of high school exploring the subject beyond the course curriculum, founding and leading my school’s psychology club, and interning at Fortis Mental Healthcare. I was particularly interested in the scholarship of Sigmund Freud. Learning new languages is a significant part of how I spend my spare time. I am fluent in three languages taught in my school, and I also learned American Sign Language (ASL). Additionally, I spend much of my holiday time perfecting my Korean. During my elementary and secondary school years, I danced competitively and participated in debate competitions, creative writing contests, and poetry contests, gaining recognition in these areas. Reading self-development books has consistently allowed me to gain a better understanding of myself. My goals for the future involve becoming a commercial lawyer and working for international businesses, building a strong foundation through my current law degree.
