Every child deserves the right to receive their education without discrimination. As a Special Education Teacher at Louis Wiener Elementary School, I have demonstrated strong and effective performance by engaging in professional development and increased my skills as a classroom teacher. I created effective and successful learning programs for my students utilizing their IEP goals and benchmarks as my guide, and participated fully as a faculty member. I provide students with the level of support they need with the goal of keeping these students included in General Education Classroom activities as much as possible while pushing them towards their academic, behavioral, and social communication goals. I'm always willing to assist others, and cover other classes when I am available and contribute to a positive environment at the building.
During the pandemic, I provided one-on-one tutoring after our online class with the approval of my principal and the parents to help students transition from in person to digital learning as this was difficult for my students with Autism. I worked alongside the General Education teachers and supporting staff for the schedule of push in, guided them in collecting data, making behavioral reports, communicating with parents through
class dojo, IIS team and seeking help for the LINKS to support my students. After long hours in a day in the school I worked after classes with my Compensatory Education student working on behavior and academic skills at his home. During the weekends I travel 40 45 minutes to give instruction services to a student receiving homebound educational services. I work with this student on her self injurious behaviors in hopes that she will one day be able to return to a school campus to be with peers. I work closely with her Mom and other community stakeholders to make sure that we are on the same goal to help her succeed at home and in the community.
Working with these kids is a satisfaction for me. For those listed roles as A Special Education Teacher, I am making sure that my students in class have made growth to their maximum potential each day. We engage
in dancing and singing for socialization and performed on the stage as a class during Summer Acceleration and Extended School Year. Another main role is to help develop and implement a student's individualized education program (IEP) making a Behavior Intervention Plan, Report Card and Progress report. A Sped Teacher should apply various techniques to evenly impact knowledge to the students. One of these involves giving intensive instructions at an individual level. This, I believe,
assesses each different needs of the students which in turn enables us to reach all students in the
classroom.
