Certified Tutor
My name is Jonathan and I have worked as a tutor in upper division mathematics at a college and in private sessions. I was recommended to the job by one of my professors and thought it would be an interesting experience. After some training and observed sessions, I was off to tutor solo. To my amazement, I loved it. To be able to be a guiding hand to so many people in the exact same situation I was once in brought me joy and fulfillment. Sadly, I had to stop after I transferred from Sierra College to the University of Nevada at Reno because I didn't think I could handle it with my course load. After I had to transfer a second, and hopefully final, time to Arizona State University, I had become quite familiar with the college experience. I am currently pursuing my Bachelor's Degree in mechanical engineering and have received 3 Associate Degrees in the fields of Math, Natural Science, and Engineering. I tutor all mathematics for STEM majors and can still offer help to those with more niche classes such as business calculus. My favorite subject to tutor is definitely Calculus I. Although it is a great challenge for people, it is such a fascinating subject to me. It takes everything learned in all math classes prior and turns it on its head. What I learned in this class changed the way I see the world and how I think. I firmly believe that nobody is at fault for struggling with understanding anything. Everyone faces struggle somewhere in life and math is no exception. I hope to be able to pass on the knowledge and experience I have gained from my struggles to anyone willing to listen. More specifically, I will not give up on anyone until they leave with a better understanding of the subject than when they first asked for help. As far as my style of tutoring goes, I will change it depending on the person. The only thing I will consistently do is listen and understand not just the subject that is in question, but also the personal difficulty a student has with it. Outside of tutoring, learning, and being smothered by engineering homework, I enjoy spending time with my fiance exploring the world. From something as small as a great food spot to a grand adventure, we enjoy it all. This planet is incredible and is rich with natural beauty. I hope to see as much of it as I can in my lifetime.
