Certified Tutor

I have a BEng Honours degree in Manufacturing Engineering & Management and have been a qualified teacher for 10 years. I have taught in secondary schools in Birmingham for 7 years and a further education college for 3. I have taught GCSE Design Technology and Engineering, BTEC Engineering, A-Level Product Design, and City & Guilds Engineering to Level 3. I have worked with students at all ability levels from additional needs to gifted and talented. I am tutoring GCSE Design Technology and Engineering as I am fascinated by how things are made and work and have the most teaching experience in these subjects. I approach teaching theory by first relating the topic to something students understand, e.g., cars, bikes, phones, and then extending that understanding to DT and Engineering. I like to use a hands-on approach where possible as students doing DT and Engineering subjects tend to be practical people who learn by doing. I have lots of experience preparing students for exams and can guide learners through understanding and answering exam questions effectively. I think that to be a good teacher, you also need to be a learner and am always developing my own skills professionally, through training courses, and personally through hobbies and interests. I am currently exploring furniture restoration and learning to paint with Bob Ross tutorials.
