I am driven to create a curiosity and passion for Psychology and pass on applicable knowledge and skills to support lifelong learning. Psychology allows pupils to understand and apply theories to behaviour and develop applicable skills of critical thinking. I am driving to provide a learning environment with clear expectations for pupil behaviour while creating a place where safety and respect is given to all. This supports multiple learning styles and all learning has a clear purpose where students take ownership and all voices are heard and respected.
Teaching Psychology means students are embarking on a new subject with little background knowledge. My natural passion for Psychology enhances my understanding of connections between topics allowing me to demonstrate real world examples of theories and show the relevance of the subject to their own lives and future careers. I believe the curiosity is driven by demonstrating the relevance of the subject to their own lives and future.
I believe in supporting all through the learning process by applying a variety of teaching techniques, planning meaningful assessments and using school data. Through mutual respect and differentiated learning, I aim to engage with all pupils and enhance learning experiences. I aim to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment through taking time to understand my pupils learning styles, showing value to their interests and learning needs in the subject leading to a respectful and personalized learning process. The positive reinforcement and constructive feedback I use can help students build self-esteem and self-confidence which I believe can improve overall wellbeing.
I believe in developing and encouraging critical thinking when teaching GCSE and IB Psychology. These skills are valuable in the subject and applicable to the learning process and life beyond school. Building an understanding of critical thinking where students are encouraged and praised for questioning and analyzing information rather than simply accepting it. I aim to embed opportunities for students to carry out problem based learning, discussion and debates to develop group and independent critical thinking. this participation in group work promotes mutual respect and understanding among pupils. This allows the pupil to think critically and apply it to what they have learned to real world situations.
The study of human behavior is highly applicable to our understanding of the globalized world as well as our wellbeing. I focus on showing the relevant and current real-world application of the Psychological knowledge I explore through learning. Giving students the opportunity to participate in identifying behaviors or conducting research and independent projects to see theories in scenarios gives a deeper, wider and more applicable understanding of the knowledge.
Utilizing feedback, support from colleagues and continual professional development, I focus on making sure no pupil is left behind in my lessons and has access to the learning. Students leave my lessons with the skills and autonomy to be able to go beyond the learning. I plan assessments for pupils to demonstrate their learning and incorporate meaningful feedback opportunities where there is a two way convocation. Planned and spontaneous feedback accelerate learning and development in my subject. I am driven to make Psychological knowledge accessible to all and applicable in assessments. Collaborative learning on human behavior can give the pupil subject confidence. Furthermore, my own reflections of the classroom culture leads to positive changes that promote a safe an inclusive environment. Reviewing content and updating studies used in the IB course makes the knowledge more relevant and drives curiosity in the subject.
I endeavor to continually give pupils the good habits and skills to succeed in Psychology and learning through continual support and bespoke feedback. This is what I am driven to, creating a positive and flexible learning environment, that supports curiosity accessibility of Psychological knowledge and learning.
