Quindelda: Virginia tutor
Certified Tutor
I am an enthusiastic and experienced mentor and coach who has practiced journalism in newsrooms for nearly 20 years.
Professionally known as Ms. Q., I started as a copy editor and then held a variety of editing, proofreading, story production and leadership roles with Cox Media Group.
I currently instruct students and working professionals on the key aspects of journalism, leadership, writing and reporting and digital media.
For example, I teach a course to professional journalists as part of leadership training at Poynter, a nonprofit media institute that provides media literacy and training. I also helped the Arizona PBS station create and execute strategic plans for analytics/metrics, website management, organizational workflow and structure.
In addition to these topics, I can tutor in reading, reading comprehension, editing, English and vocabulary. Historically, I have tutored mostly adults as well as high school and college students. Depending on the topic, I'm confident I could adapt lessons for middle school students as well.
I obtained my Bachelor's of Journalism from the University of Georgia's Grady College of Journalism. I then joined AJC.com as a copy-editing intern after completing four other editorial internships including Essence Magazine in New York City and the Dow Jones Copy Editing Internship.
As a tutor, I believe the core of success is connection and adaptability. I adjust my techniques to the individual and their specific needs. Whether it's in a one-on-one or group setting, I try to build a connection through active engagement and positive reinforcement.
To support this tailored approach, I'm a huge believer in reinforcing core fundamentals and repeatable processes that build ongoing wins.

Outside of mentoring and coaching, I have a growing online business called thriftyIQ, which helps me remain active in digital content, media and marketing techniques. It is also helping me to learn more about sustainability and eCommerce. My family and I are very active in our community. We regularly donate goods and time to a variety of efforts throughout the year. When not working, I love reading, traveling, thrifting, personal finance, family & friends time and binge watching my favorite shows.
