For me, teaching is not only about helping students understand a curriculum, but it is also about patience, great communication being a good listener and understanding that each students has his/her own individualized needs that must be addressed by the tutor.
During my undergraduate medical school years, I was passionate about the basic medical sciences taught in the first 2 years of college. I was passionate about the molecular events that occurred at the cellular level in the human body and how those events were revealed as a sign or symptom on a patient. I found this idea to be extra ordinary and decided that my future study or scientific research would be based on basic medical sciences. It was for that reason that after I successfully passed my USMLE exams and received my ECFMG certificate, I started to seek more basic molecular science knowledge by applying to the Master of science in medical sciences (Anatomy concentration) from the University of South Florida, Morsani college of Medicine where I received my degree in 2018. During that year of study, I became more passionate about molecular sciences especially cell biology. In the summer of that year I managed to do research on cell DNA and my research that resulted in a publication. After I graduated I applied to Professional science master in Biotechnology from University of South Florida, Morsani college of Medicine. My Master in Biotechnology showed me how molecular sciences were applied in real life research & development and in other applications that served humanity like vaccines especially during hard times like the Covid-19 pandemic. During my Master in Biotechnology, I managed to have another publication based on my study on bacterial toxins. I was also required to successfully finish an internship during the summer in a research and development lab and as part of my internship I was assigned to supervise and teach university students who volunteered in the lab. Nothing made me happier than hearing positive feedback from the students whom I supervised and taught. This notion helped me realize that I have what it takes to be a good tutor.
My teaching strategy is that every student is different and each student will require a different approach and to determine that approach, patience along with ideal communication and adjusting my pace depending on the students needs will always be the key.
