I'm an educator by nature, an expert big sister & an "auntie" to many. I've always been passionate about education; In grade school. I excelled in English; especially reading comprehension & analysis, vocabulary, grammar, and composition. By extension, I excelled in social studies and other subjects that require strong reading comprehension skills.
I was in university when I ventured into tutoring by leading a study group of my classmates. Later, I joined a university-led program that paired college students with middle school kids for reinforcement in core subjects & took notes for students with disabilities. I graduated from Rutgers University cum laude with no surprise a degree in Journalism & Media Studies and Political Science.
After college, I took a detour from education to explore other interests including news gathering, and reporting, financial technology, project management & business analysis, product management, and customer tech support. I'd continually find myself seeking out education and educating others. I obtained licenses and certifications, I gave presentations and I trained fellow employees. In both my personal and professional lives, I'd often hear "You're such a great teacher!"
It wasn't until the pandemic lockdowns of 2020, that I fully embraced my calling as an educator. When I learned that local children would be at home with parents who were unprepared to educate them, I knew I had to help. I volunteered in my local community to support parents with their children's online learning. That lead to a gig in babysitting and homework help and ultimately to a job as an elementary school English Language Arts teacher and study hall monitor.
These days, I work with motivated students who need remediation, enrichment or homework help. I take an analytical approach to tutoring. I always start with an assessment after which methodically work through the most severe areas of need and up through the least severe. I value quality over quantity so I go at the student's pace. My goal is to help students to uncover how they learn & then to coach them while they apply what they've learned so that it eventually becomes habit. In this way, I seek to inspire lifetime learners.
I look forward to bringing my passion for education to our sessions.
