Ryan: Hanover Park tutor
Certified Tutor
I graduated cum laude from Bowdoin College in the spring of 2021 with an Education and Political Science double major and a Sociology minor. I begin a two-year FAO Schwarz Fellowship placement in September of 2021 at Jumpstart an organization dedicated to providing high quality early education to children between 0-5 with the vision that all children enter kindergarten ready to succeed. Following my fellowship placement, I plan to attend law school.
I believe that education is the bedrock of society, therefore, I am passionate about finding opportunities to support students in their educational endeavors. In the fall of 2020 I babysat/tutored twin fourth graders and guided them through their virtual schooling. This included helping them with homework, answering questions, providing further prompts/assignments to understand the material at a conceptual level, and providing support and encouragement when they struggled.
My teaching philosophy stems from my strong belief in the importance of social emotional learning. The first step in all of my teaching and tutoring experiences has been to establish trust and comfort with my student. I strive to create a learning environment where students feel very comfortable asking questions, telling me if they need me to try to explain something in a different way, and in general see me as someone who is cheering for them and will do anything to help them succeed.
My experiences tutoring primarily are from my pandemic tutoring of 4th graders and mentoring/teaching middle schoolers in college. Additionally, I wrote a thesis surrounding presidential power and legislative influence, therefore, I have spent hours and hours honing the craft of writing. Therefore, essay editing is also my forte. I feel confident tutoring and working with students in any of the subjects I have listed.
I look forward to the opportunity to work with your amazing student!
