Abby: Wake County tutor
Certified Tutor
I am currently a senior at Randolph-Macon College in Virginia working on my Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. I am also a member of Phi Mu Epsilon, the Mathematics National Honors Society. Outside of academics, I swim on the R-MC women's swim team. Though swimming takes most of my time at school, I am also involved in greek life and recently earned my EMT certification.
The past two years, I have tutored Calculus 1, 2, and 3 at R-MC and earned certification as a College Reading & Learning Association (CRLA) Certified Subject Tutor. I typically tutor 4 hours a week for R-MC, and this helps me keep my calculus skills sharp. The calculus courses are my favorite subjects to tutor; however, I am excited to expand to new subjects such as differential equations - my favorite field of mathematics which motivated my senior research project.
I am extremely passionate about math and this is evident in my tutoring style; I am energetic and determined. I rely on a whiteboard and practice examples to tutor. I believe solving many example problems is the best and most effective way to learn topics in applied math courses such as calculus. I have found through experience that most students need support from their tutor not only to clear misconceptions and strengthen problem-solving techniques, but also to run through example problems.
