I am very happy with our experience so far with Varsity Tutors. They matched my daughter with reading specialist Mary and she is wonderful! My 10 year old daughter feels happy after her sessions and believes her tutor has already helped her.

Certified Tutor

I am a graduate of The University of Exeter in England, where I received a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and a Post Graduate in Secondary Education (UK teaching certificate) in Secondary Mathematics. I have 15 years of teaching experience working with students aged 11 upwards, including adults who in many cases were returning to education after years away. I enjoy working with students of all ages and abilities but get particular satisfaction from explaining things to those who have struggled in the past. For the last seven years, prior to moving to the US, I worked with students who needed to retake the GCSE maths test, which students in England have to take at age 16, and successfully helped numerous students to pass this when they'd previously thought themselves unable to. I want to help students to succeed and realize their full potential, and will work at the speed which best suits them, making sure they have a firm grasp of each topic before moving on. In my spare time I love reading and blogging about books and watching movies. I'm looking forward to theatres being opened as I really like watching musicals, plays and dance shows.

Hobbies

I'm a keen reader who has, for the past 10 years, run a blog focusing on YA novels. This was particularly useful when teaching as I was able to recommend books to students who'd enjoy them. I'm also a crossword solver learning to love American style crosswords as much as British cryptics, and have just started trying to construct some myself. In addition, I enjoy jogging, and am getting to know the local area (having moved here a few months ago) by varying my routes. I was an avid theatre-goer, watching a wide variety of plays, musicals, and dance shows, when I lived in London, at least until everything closed down in March.
