I'm Gihan! I have over 12 years of experience in teaching in the New York State public school system and working directly with students, one-on-one as a tutor! I offer tutoring services for children (regular and special needs), in grades KG-8 in all core subjects. My experience has enabled me to strengthen essential skills such as communication, engagement, delivery, & creativity, in order to perfect my craft of educating children. There is nothing more satisfying to me than instilling confidence in a child & the rewarding feeling of witnessing them have that "aha!" moment when finally grasping a topic, is why I do what I do.

Being able to provide a one-on-one session for a child, giving them my full attention, and catering each specific lesson plan to meet their individual needs, is in my opinion the most effective way to educate. In my years of teaching and tutoring, I have received phenomenal feedback from both parents and students due to my efforts in constantly seeking more ways to keep students engaged, make learning fun, and most importantly, relating the topic at hand to everyday life so they understand WHY they are learning each topic.

Having strong content knowledge about the required curriculum and relate it to their grade level standard is so important. Most of my experience is in teaching the Common Core curriculum. Therefore, utilizing new/in-depth mathematical tools such as Eureka math (also known as EngageNY) is something that I enjoy, as it makes it simple for students to relate to everyday life

I want students and parents to know that I have a genuine interest in helping children and help them gain as much knowledge as possible. After all, they are our future and we as the adults all have to be mindful of the impact we have on each individual child's life and have their best interest at heart.
