Certified Tutor
I have many years of experience teaching students of different ages and ability levels. I have taught everything from singing to learning how to read to high school basic math. A long time ago in a land far away, I graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Vocal Performance. I then went to the Northeast Montessori Institute to train as a Montessori teacher for 3 to 6 year olds. I worked in a Montessori School for 3 years before moving to Saint Louis where I volunteered as a literacy tutor for adults who hadn't learned to read. I then became an Adult Basic Education teacher where I taught teens and adults of all ability levels who were non-high school graduates everything they needed to learn to pass the GED test. In my final year teaching GED classes, I won the student-nominated "Ring of Excellence" award. During this time, I also had jobs teaching music and voice lessons to children and adults through a few different schools.
I have been homeschooling my own children and teaching their peers in our homeschool co-op for the past 11 years. Both of my children have learning challenges, so I have had to be constantly creative in how I teach them. If one approach doesn't work, I look for something new and try again. Seeing that "ah-ha" on any student's face when they finally understand a topic is such a great feeling as a teacher. I particularly like teaching writing skills.
In my spare time I love to read, knit, and garden. I hope to work with you soon!
