Physics M.A. with a passion for teaching, programming, and music.
While I spent many years in physics, I realized during graduate school that it on its own was not the field for me. I enjoyed teaching and programming more than I did working through the physics of my research. However, in getting my M.A. in physics, I mastered core physics material, and became a strong teacher in passing down my knowledge.
I worked as a teaching assistant for the 5 years while in school, including 2 semesters that I was the head TA for the course I regularly taught, a first level physics (classical mechanics) lab for non-physical-science majors. Through teaching that course, I learned how to effectively teach those with little interest in the subject, frequently being told that I was my students' favorite TA (I'm usually very humble, but I love to brag a little about that!)
As part of my TA appointment in grad school, I also worked as an informal tutor for a few semesters, something the UT Physics Department called "coaching." Through that, I tutored students at all levels of physics, from first semester courses for non-physics majors to senior level courses for physics majors.
I also worked as a tutor through Austin Community College on the weekends for a couple semesters. At ACC, I tutored physics and math, again, for all levels. As a tutor, I had students I would work with for the whole semester, making sure they made the incremental progress necessary to excel in physics and math.
