Hello! My name is Arletta Lancaster. I live in Rockmart, Georgia. My present job is a 4th Grade Math and Science teacher within the Cobb County School District in Smyrna, GA. My prior knowledge and experiences in the technology field are several. I have an undergraduate degree in Electronics Engineering Technology, which has provided me with the tools to expand on my knowledge in the electronics arena. For example, I had the opportunity to practice as an ORCAD designer at NASA my last year in college as a cooperative education student. In addition, my first job right out of college included troubleshooting and repairing cable equipment as an electronics repair technician. I had the pleasure of having these technological experiences even before I started my career as an educator.
I have always had a keen interest in computers and solving problems, so using technology during teaching and learning just seems like a natural part of instruction for me. Therefore, these prior educational and work experiences peaked my interest in the field of IDT (Instructional Design and Technology). As a result, I am pretty tech savvy in the classroom. I have the experiences of using my desktop computer, the overhead projector, video clips, the Promethean smartboard, and ActivInspire flipcharts to enhance my lessons. I also have experience with using different forms of software such as learning management systems (Infinite Campus), instructional programs (Edgenuity), a game-based classroom response system (Kahoot), and the online learning program (Flocabulary). Additionally, I have the experience of using the Microsoft Office Suite software packages (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) to create certain learning activities for my students.
I began my teaching career in Houston, Texas, as I taught elementary school for five years. After moving to Georgia, I continued my educational career here, teaching in the elementary and middle school settings. Over the course of my twenty three years of teaching, I have taught every grade level, ranging from 1st grade to 8th grade, with 2nd grade being the only exception. As an educator, I have served as 21st Century Site Coordinator, Lead Mentor Teacher, Math Team Lead, ELA Department Chair, Spelling Bee Coordinator, Dance Team Coach and Cheerleading Coach.
I have one lovely daughter, Valecia, who is currently completing her master's degree at Tennessee State University in Nashville. I am very proud to share that my daughter graduated Summa Cum Laude
with her Bachelor's degree, and still currently maintaining that 4.0 GPA while obtaining her Master's degree. I enjoy traveling, swimming, dancing, watching movies and spending time with my family and friends. I absolutely love learning, and I also enjoy teaching and helping students understand and learn new concepts. Math has always been my favorite subject to learn in school, and now it is my favorite subject to teach in school. I believe I have a gift in teaching math, as my passion for math and teaching flows through in my lessons. I have had the pleasure of being an online tutor before, and I am looking forward to having great teaching and learning experiences again.
