Certified Tutor
I am an enthusiastic, outgoing former classroom teacher with over 8 years in the education field and a master's degree in STEM Education from the University of Texas at Austin. My undergraduate degree is a BSED in Elementary Education from Bucknell University.
I started out as a Second Grade aide and math tutor, taught First Grade for two years, and then tutored K-12 and college students for two and a half years while earning my master's degree. My tutoring subjects included math, science, elementary reading, and SAT prep. I recently taught at the high school level (Geometry, Algebra 2, and Pre-Calculus). My certifications are in elementary education K-6 and middle school math, grades 7-9.
It is my goal to reach all students in ways that work for their strengths and interests. My teaching style is to tailor learning activities to fit the needs, strengths, and interests of each student to make sure they feel confident and successful. I love using technology (games, online tests, Varsity Tutors' whiteboard).
I'm into reading and binging TV (especially sci-fi and comedy). I love to travel (my favorite place to visit is Austin, TX) and hike. I love animals; I have a German Shepherd named Minnie.
Math is my favorite subject (and my favorite subject to teach). I didn't always have the most positive math classroom experiences so I have made it a goal to help students with math anxiety and show them that everyone is a "math person." My expertise is in K-12 mathematics, especially Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2.
