Certified Tutor

Hello! My name is Keenan and I am a doctoral candidate with a B.S. in Physiology from the University of Arizona and a M.S. in Human Physiology from the University of Oregon. I have 7+ years of experience in Physiology and Anatomy with topics ranging from molecular to cellular, tissue, systems, and whole body physiology. I currently work in the Molecular Metabolism and Endocrinology lab in the Department of Human Physiology at the University of Oregon; more specifically, my research emphasizes the pathogenesis of insulin resistance and obesity, mitochondrial physiology, and fetal programming (i.e. developmental biology). Over the last three years I have been an instructor for phys/anatomy courses and their labs with topics spanning 300-level: introductory/cellular physiology+anatomy (neuro, neuromuscular, cardiopulmonary); nutrition and metabolism; endocrine, digestion, and sexual systems; and exercise physiology.

Since beginning my undergraduate studies seven years ago, I have studied the basic sciences with a focus in human physiology/medicine that extends from mechanism through systemic regulation. I have trained both in the classroom as well as in the laboratory using novel techniques and technologies. Furthermore, my training in education has been novel and extensive via the Department of Human Physiology's pedagogy at the University of Oregon. I have been instructing undergraduate students for the last three years, an opportunity that has allowed me to develop my own teaching style which extends beyond traditional education and fosters an environment where "students learn how to learn". This means teaching more than just facts to regurgitate but instead provides students with strategies and resources that set them up for a lifetime of successful learning which extends far beyond the next quiz or end of the term exam.

Feel free to contact me with any questions you may have, from credentials to teaching philosophy to content mastery! I look forward to helping you achieve your educational goals and aspirations.
