Change is an inevitably part of life. It happens whether we want it to or not. For many, change is not looked upon with favor and is viewed as a necessary evil one most endure. However, change can be a positive force. With change comes new opportunities and possibilities. Personal growth cannot be achieved without it. So it is, I have reach a point in my life and career where the positive force of change has helped prepare me to meet the challenges the next chapter in my life will offer.
At sixty years of age, I am not a new student of change. After a successful career in government service as a special agent, I retired from active service to pursue new opportunities both in the consulting sector and in education.
I recently served as the Executive Campus Director for the Pittsburgh Campus of Career Training Academy. As the Campus Director I was responsible for all operational, educational and administrative functions of the campus. My professional responsibilities included the following: hiring, evaluating and developing faculty and staff, developing and ensuring the consistent delivery of quality curriculum, managing a retention management processes, developing and administering program budgets, determining faculty and staff training needs, coordinating industry projects with faculty teams, tailoring training and educational material to the level and need of individual students, and managing and implementing a system of student support.
I also served as the Academic Dean over four schools, Business, Hospitality, Criminal Justice and Culinary Arts at Pittsburgh Technical College. Each school offers several associate level degree programs in addition to a baccalaureate degree in business. My professional responsibilities were similar in nature to those performed at Career Training Academy.
On a personal and professional level, I am currently working towards a doctorate in business. The skills acquired while pursuing this advanced degree will enable me to better serve the students I interact with. I believe the process will help me to understand, develop and apply theory and research skills that will enhance my decision-making process and assist me in solving complex and practical issue currently facing the education industry.
Completion of the doctorate program will also open up new opportunities for personal growth. It will provide the opportunity to teach highly motivated students, undertake research and develop satisfying professional relations with colleagues across the country and world without parallel in most other professions. Being a professor also means having the opportunity to search for knowledge that will improve business practices and society. Through research and teaching, I may have the opportunity to have a significant effect on my industry by making my institution more efficient, innovative, and profitable.
