Certified Tutor

I am a graduate of Denison University in Granville, Ohio, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in English. During my time at Denison, I served as a consultant in the Writing Center, where I worked with my peers on papers for all subject areas. I also competed on the Moot Court team. Since graduation, I have served as a coach and mentor in many different capacities: for three years, I served as a assistant director of a nonprofit where I regularly trained 75 different community leaders to effectively communicate on local issues, and for the past five years, I've served as the coordinator for New Moon Girl Media's Sister to Sister mentor program, where I work with high school and middle school aged girls on blog posts and other writing. Currently, I teach writing as a camp counselor at Thurber House Literary Center and I will soon be serving as a GTA through the Helen Zell Writers' Program at the University of Michigan.

While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about writing and literature. I believe that through writing and the challenge of working through and clearly communicating our ideas, we learn much more about whatever subject we are discussing. I am passionate about working with students because it was fourteen years into my education that I first encountered a teacher who waited, patiently and non-accusingly, at least 10 seconds after asking a question before calling and someone and initiating a discussion. This was transformative for me as a then-introverted college freshman and I offer this story to share why it is so personally important to me to allow students with different learning styles a range of opportunities to apply themselves.

In my spare time, I enjoy reading, cooking, running, and playing the piano.
