I believe that all children can become lifelong learners with the proper teacher who is able to share their love for learning with students. That teacher is me. To me, learning is not only being capable of recalling information, but enjoying and understanding why we learn. Through education, you gain the knowledge that is useful in life. Knowledge is important because it helps us understand ourselves as well as have access to multiple opportunities in life by influencing various people or even places.
In order for children to become lifelong learners, experience themselves and influence others, I have a very structured and routine classroom. Within my teaching practices, children feel safe to express themselves, they feel motivated to learn, and they are stimulated in this environment.
Within my classroom, my main focus is on respectfulness between students, teachers, and classroom visitors. Respect is learned as something you earn from someone and to treat others the way you want to be treated. When students respect others, they are kind, responsible, and safe in the classroom.
Being an educator, I believe it is important to get to know each child's strengths and needs. Within this, I design lesson plans to aid children's needs in their favored way of learning while keeping in mind the importance of play to development. I believe practicing this in my structured classroom allows children to succeed physically and mentally. Assessing children formally and informally allows me to understand where the children are and what i can do to enhance their knowledge.
In the end of each lesson, I believe it is important to relate each concept to the bigger picture and out of classroom experience. I allow children to understand that we are not just learning because we are in a classroom, but it helps us positively in the world we live in. Knowledge can only enhance ourselves and those around us to be the best we can be.
