Certified Tutor

As the oldest of four siblings, I have been helping people with schoolwork for as long as I can remember. In high school, I volunteered as a tutor for for other students. As I was a member of the math and english honor societies, I was also expected to tutor other students during after school programs we put together. I was able to finish high school with a 3.9 and was accepted into several universities, including the University of Maryland College Park. While there, I was Vice President of a community service organization called Do Better. Among many other community service events, we traveled to schools in DC and Maryland to tutor students of all ages. Helping people academically is a passion of mine because I believe knowledge is power, and the opportunity to instill some of the knowledge you have with other students is so important. My approach to teaching is to break things down as simply as possible. Students often fall behind because their teachers assume they know certain things and therefore don't teach them well enough. This is a big mistake. I ask my students exactly what's confusing to them even if it means going back to the basics. Learning is all about building a strong foundation.
