I am passionate about what I teach, and that passion is the primary motivation behind teaching. I am a former university biology instructor and research technician. I also have taught in private and public schools, where I taught science and reading. My love of research led me to acquire a degree in librarianship and I was able to work as an adult reference librarian for three years.
I have a B.S. in Zoology from Texas A&M University (College Station), an M.L.I.S. in Library and Information Science from University of Texas (Austin), and an M.S. in Biology from Sul Ross State University (Alpine, TX). I enjoy tutoring biology and other life sciences, as well as elementary and middle school math and reading. My interests include running, camping, hiking, and exploring the natural world.
Instead of trying to teach students everything we think they should know, I believe in showing students how to think about things. Hands-on practices, thinking outside the box, and consistent feedback are part of my teaching style. As a tutor I like to encourage questions and emphasize relevance of material. I invite students to contribute to ongoing discussions and guide them to become more independent learners.
