Certified Tutor

I'm a guitarist, bassist, and songwriter who has toured extensively across the US as a solo musician and as an ensemble player. I currently record and tour in an experimental folk duo and release a monthly EP as a solo artist. As a teacher, I specialize in working with beginner-intermediate students of all ages to help them develop the skills they need to think creatively and constructively about overcoming musical obstacles. I do this by teaching skill-appropriate songs from genres the student is interested in that the student and I work together to select. I find this creates a sense of achievement in the student and allows me as a teacher to gradually explain the more difficult theoretical concepts of music in a way that is immediately valuable. Playing music is my favorite thing in the world and fostering that same excitement in my students is my top priority.

I have performed all across the country and have worked as a teacher, a live audio engineer, and directed workshops on recording and writing. In 2014 I received a grant to study DIY music culture across America and found that nearly every musician now has the ability to connect directly to an audience while maintaining more control of their art than ever before. I believe that there's never been a more exciting time to make music and I'd love to help you start your journey.
