Certified Tutor
I entered the education field just about 4 years ago after a long career in marketing and sales. At the end of my first day as a substitute teacher I was hooked on the job. I finally felt really good about what I had spent my day doing. I am now in my 3rd year as a fully certified teacher. I, currently, teach, kindergarten after starting out with 4th and 5th graders. I have worked in schools that are considered both "challenging" and nice nice. This has taught me how important it is to take a differentiated approach to my students.
I found that classroom teaching is very rewarding in many ways. Though it can be tough to get down to the nitty gritty with an individual student to where we really get to have lots of those ah-ha moments. It is more of a gradual process. That is part of what led me to tutoring. I get to share more of those moments of success with my students while honing my craft and becoming a better classroom teacher.
I believe that learning is something that must be desired by the learner. As a teacher/tutor I strive to instill a feeling of independence and ownership over ones learning. As I do with my own children (ages 10 and 13), I spend time asking questions to provoke thoughtful interactions about content matter to help the learner make those connections from what they have learned in the past and may be very good at, to what they are working on now.
I look forward to working with your student and helping him or her to become a successful lifelong learner.
